The Royal Marines Commandos are an elite fighting force, always prepared for worldwide rapid response and capable to deal with a wide range of threats and security challenges. Throughout their history, the Royal Marines have been at the spearhead of the UK’s military and have consistently seen action in every corner of the globe.
It takes a special sort of person to become a Royal Marines Commando. Their gruelling 32 week Commando course is widely known for being one of the most physically and mentally challenging training courses to exist in any military organisation.
The Commando values of excellence, integrity, self-discipline and humility are drilled into every recruit. Additionally, recruits are taught to embody the Commando qualities of, determination, courage, unselfishness and cheerfulness in the face of adversity.
The majority of Royal Marine candidates are unsuccessful and don’t make it to the end but those that do are awarded the coveted green beret. Next stop is deployment to an operational Commando unit where they hone their skills in a variety of unwelcoming environments and extreme conditions.
A Royal Marine is expected to react to the most demanding situations whilst under intense pressure, achieving maximum impact with minimum fuss. The intensity of their training prepares them for this along with the consistent maintenance of the Commando Values and the Commando Spirit.
